Hamsun’s Home – 2017

2017, 16×20, Acrylic on Canvas, Not for Sale

Exhibited in OUTside the PRACTICE at Bridgeport Art Center, Chicago 2018

Inspired by my visit to the Hamsunsenteret in Hamarøy, Norway (see blog post here), I wanted to paint the Hamsun Center in its beautiful surroundings – Pan’s woods so to speak due to the statue of Pan nearby. The building is such a stark contrast to the landscape, yet it entirely fits within – trees play off the background of the building, wood is used as cladding, the openings in the building deal specific views to the landscape with the rooftop providing a veiled panorama – much in the way that Hamsun wrote.
